Settings guide
Open Shimeji Desktop Reloaded from the Start menu, or click its icon next to the clock. Everything is set in that window, and every change applies right away.
At the top of the window
The banner shows what the Shimeji are up to: waiting, out, switched off or paused. The On switch turns them off completely. Try for 30 seconds brings them onto your screens right away, then sends them home. While they’re out, the button becomes Send them home.
General
Wait before they arrive
From 1 to 60 minutes, 5 by default. It’s the time without keyboard, mouse or gamepad on a screen before the first Shimeji shows up there.
They leave when I come back
On, they leave as soon as you’re back. Off, they stay until you send them home.
When I come back to a screen
They leave that screen: the ones on other screens stay. They leave every screen: everyone goes at once.
Start with Windows
Shimeji Desktop Reloaded starts with Windows and waits in the notification area, without opening a window.
Screens
The map shows your screens the way Windows arranges them. Click a screen to turn it on or off. You can pick up to three, and at least one must stay on. Each screen keeps its own idle time: if you stay on your main screen, the Shimeji can come out on the second one.
Behavior
Maximum number of Shimeji
From 1 to 30, 10 by default. One to three arrive first, then the others one by one up to that number.
A new Shimeji every…
From 1 to 60 minutes, 5 by default. It’s the time between two arrivals, up to the maximum number.
Mischief
They grab your windows and throw them. The windows go back where they were when you return. Turned off, they play with windows without moving them.
Play with windows
They climb on open windows, sit on the edges and hang from them.
Walk on the taskbar and docks
They stroll along the Windows taskbar, wherever it is, and on any dock you’ve installed. The app adapts to your desktop customizations on its own.
Not during videos
Nobody comes to a screen where a video is playing, in a player or in the browser.
Not during fullscreen games
Nobody comes to a screen taken by a fullscreen game or app.
Characters
Turn each character on or off, and add more from a file. It’s all explained on the Characters page.
Language
The app starts in your Windows language: English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese or Japanese. The button at the bottom right lets you pick another one.
The icon next to the clock
One click opens the settings. Right-click it for:
- Try for 30 seconds, or Send them home if they’re out;
- Pause for an hour, handy during a video call or a presentation, then Resume;
- Quit, which sends the Shimeji home and closes the app.
While the Shimeji are out, a second small icon appears: it belongs to the Shimeji-ee engine. It goes away with them.
About
This tab shows the version, the licenses, and a button to open the log. The log records what the app does (arrivals, departures, screens), and never the titles of your windows. It helps make sense of odd behavior.
